1936 Spanish Civil War Gas Mask
Offered here is a very fine conditioned example of a Spanish Civil War era gas mask. This mask is accompanied with the correct cannister that features the initials of its owner carved into the lid. Much like in the beginning of the Second World War, many of the combatants in the Civil War did not know if the enemy would use chemical weapons, and so these masks were produced to equip fighters in the event chemical weapons were utilized. It is still debated by historians if there were chemical weapons used during the Spanish Civil War, whatever the truth may be, it is certain that Spain’s use of colonial weapons during its Riff War in Morocco as well as painful memories from the First World War, were enough to justify the production of these masks. Overall the condition is quite nice, the mask and cannister are complete and the pictures speak for themselves!
