WW1 Imperial German Ottoman “Gallipoli Star” Medal
Offered here is the “Gallipoli Star” medal. The “Iron Crescent” or “Gallipoli Star” as collectors have called this item, was an award created by the Turkish to award the German officers who fought in the middle eastern campaign. The Turkish version of this award is not aesthetically pleasing, and typically just paint on a steel badge. Most of the German officers who received this award were not pleased, and so they went to their local jewelers and had a better version made. BB&Co. was also contracted by the government to produce lovely enameled versions of the badge. This badge is one of the most unique awards that were ever awarded to German officers. The enamel on this badge is gorgeous, and free of any cracks that I can see. Nicely hallmarked on the reverse as well.
