Civil War Confederate Named Southern Cross of Honor
Offered here is a very fine example of the Southern Cross of Honor. These medals were produced and distributed by the United Daughters of the Confederacy around 1900. These medals were only given to confederate veterans who were verified as such. This medal is name engraved on the front panel to A. B. Jones, who fought with the confederacy. The engraving was very lightly done and is hard to see. However, with the right lighting and angle you can see the engraving is certainly there. There were only 78,000 of these medals issued from 1899-1913, with some being issued as late as the late 1940’s.
