WW2 Italian M39 Dress Dagger With Leather Hanger
Offered here is a lovely example of an Italian fascist dress dagger worn by members of the PNF and MVSN. This dagger is called the M39, due to the leather hangers being introduced in 1939, this replacing the metal chained hangers that proceeded it. Many officers did not buy new daggers, but opted to purchase the leather hangers instead. I have theorized that the leather hangers do a better job at stabilizing the dagger while in motion. I have seen in many period photos where the chained hangers have twisted radically and the dagger is mixed up. Overall, the condition cannot be beat on this particular dagger. There is some patina on the chape of the scabbard, but other than that, it’s very cherry. The marks on the blade appear to be dried grease, the blade is very lovely as is the best of the dagger. These Italian daggers are often faked, or put together from incoherent parts. This is a great opportunity to acquire a righteous dagger for your collection. These are much more rare than any German army, navy, luft, SS, or SA dagger.
