WW2 US Purple Heart WIA Jewish Veteran USMC
Offered here is a very fine example of a WW2 US Purple Heart that is numbered to the recipient. This heart was awarded to Edgar H. Burman, who was wounded in battle in the pacific around 1943/1944. Mr. Burman was a Jewish veteran who served in the pacific against the Japanese, likely by design since he would have been in danger should he have been captured by German forces. Burman went on to become active in Jewish veterans groups until he later passed away. Included in the grouping is the numbered Purple Heart, case, and original newspaper featuring Burman’s photo as having him listed as WIA. There is a fair amount of him in local newspapers, but far more research to be uncovered. This would make for an excellent research project!
