WW2 Japanese Type 93 Field Binoculars

$395.00

Offered here is a very fine example of Japanese Type 93 binoculars. During the early 1930’s the Japanese army developed these binoculars specifically so NCO’s would have a lightweight, inexpensive option for field glasses. The type 93 design proved to be very well received by Japanese NCO’s. The lenses on this particular set are quite clear and still operate very well, on the right lense there is what appears to be a shade inside the lense, I am not 100% certain what that is, but you can still look through the lense and see just fine. The most interesting features on this set is the two field modifications made by the Japanese soldier who carried this set. You’ll see that the original leather lanyard likely rotted away in the extreme climate of East Asia, so the soldier utilized a shoe string as his new lanyard. Secondly you’ll notice that the leather clasp to close the binocular case was also replaced with telephone wire. Both of these notifications are very neat and interesting. Japanese soldiers are well known for making due with what they could find around them, this set speaks well to that point!
